Sleepover or Nah?

So, I have had what you might call writers block for approximately one month. Should probably point out that is more of an ‘authors + publishers exhaustion’ than a ‘writers block’. As I have had quite a few bloggable* encounters/moments within that period but unfortunately almost no time to pen down thoughts…

Well, until today. Was on the elevator and overheard some folks discussing sleepovers… Apparently one of our fellow elevator passengers is planning the first one for her kids this weekend. You should have heard the excitement and advice that was flowing from all corners of the upward racing cube. Talks about stocking up games, snacks, activities, midnight munchies, enforcing strict lights out, sending must-bring list to parents, etc.! The brief elevator ride topic amongst like 6 people, at diff stages in their lives, solidified details I already knew about sleepovers: Screams, Laughter, Movies, Snacks, More Snacks, Makeshift Sleeping Arrangements, and FUN (especially for the kiddos).

The conversation got me REALLY thinking about my opinion on sleep overs. I mean, the hubby and I have not approached this topic yet since our babies are still so young. For the most part it sounds like the pros of a sleepover far outweigh the cons for the kids and well, for the parents dropping them off! It is common knowledge that the hosting parents usually get little or no sleep. Also heard the exhaustion level is quite high on the scale for said hosting parents…Teee heee 😁😁!

Back to my considerations. As usual, my wonderful mind thought up possible scenarios that could go really well and really badly* (quoting POTUS). The positives include bonding with friends, having FUN and creating lifetime memories for the youngies. On the flip side, thoughts of medical emergencies, abuse, etc. popped up for the negatives. Most times it just takes 1 negative occurrence for a child’s life to be changed forever. So I am still in thinking mode… after all we do have loads of time.

How about you? What are your thoughts? Have you let your kiddos sleepover or hosted other kids? Will you let your kids participate in sleepovers? Will you host sleepovers? Any fun stories? Any bad stories? Do tell people… biko 🙂
