‘Boss Baby’ on a Wednesday?!

The hubby and I randomly decided to take the kids to see ‘Boss Baby’ this evening  and it was a blast! They totally did not expect a trip to the movies on a week night or at all even. Coming to think of it, they hardly ever go to the movies… Their first ever movie experience was in Lagos Nigeria: ‘Inside Out’. Joy and her fellow emotional creatures  captivated our kiddos attention for the most part! That, and the yummy sugar popcorn that just isn’t part of the US movie theater tradition (sigh) kept us all upbeat like Joy.

Think their only other notable movie experience was Moana. Even I was enthralled. Note that prior to having kids, I rarely EVER watched animations. Didn’t matter what the story line was about. Nope. Count me out! Oh what kids make you do…

So, back to Boss baby. Did I mention we saw it at Studio Movie Grill (SMG)? That’s right. One stop spot for dinner, movies and well, drinks. I ofcourse had to feed them some fruits once their dad brought them in from school and also took a back up light meal incase they reject the meal options there. You never know with these kids. Luckily, they ate most of their meal! Yay!

The movie itself was quite funny, very childlike and I must say engaging. Both Kehz and Azah watched it from beginning to end in their own seats! Ok, Azah may have snuck into my laps towards the end but still! I was amazed! Maybe we can make this a family tradition? Especially since we realized money could have been saved if we had come a day sooner i.e. yesterday. Apparently SMG has a $5 Movie Tuesdays promotion… take note Houstonians! We just may *impromtuly* show up on a random Tuesday evening! It also helped that the theater was almost empty which made it easy to talk freely while divvying up their food and reminding them to keep eating.

Felt a weird need to write today cause I am inexplicably happy. Kehz and Azah were quite excited when we announced the movie plans to them. Azah did a little happy dance while her dad was picking up our tickets at the counter. Kehz? Well he was pointing out all the ‘Boss Baby’ posters and screen shots. Even proudly led us to the right theater… I am still amazed at his reading levels! He just turned 4 last month! They both walked past our seats cause their eyes were glued to the big screen. Lolz!

These are the moments that count and turn into cherishable memories for kids. The everyday routine things we do no doubt shapes them but these random one-off surprises definitely help them appreciate us their parents more. Azah must have kissed me a dozen times while she was on my laps! Not sure what Kehz and his papa were discussing over there… Although at some point I overheard my hubby threaten Kehz that he’ll turn off of big screen if Kehz didn’t keep eating. Guess our boy was more into the movie than the food 🙂 They were having some other deep convo that I just couldn’t make out too!

Oh well, hope you’re making out time to spend with your kiddos? What have you done to surprise them of late? If nothing, please consider surprising them once in a while. They, and you, will enjoy it!
